Why Gerringong is a wonderful getaway holiday village
Gerringong is 30 minutes from Woolongong, a short drive south from Kiama and about two hours from Sydney airport.
If you are driving from Sydney, then a simple detour off the freeway on the Grand Pacific Drive is well worth taking. It is a gloriously scenic trip down through the national park and then along the rugged coastline over a roadway cantilevered over the sea.
A modern rail link runs hourly from Central Station and there are regular bus services as well.
The climate in Gerringong is generally mild. In your Gerringong holiday home, you will find the summers are warm providing ideal beach weather during the day, with cooling afternoon sea breezes. The winters are cool and clear with deep blue skies arching over the magnificent coast and country.
Werri Beach is an ideal place to swim. Lifesavers from the Gerringong Lifesaving club patrol the beach in the swimming season. It is a perfectpicnic spot and if you feel like some fish and chips, well you can’t go past the famous Werri Beach Fish Shop.
On the south side of Werri Beach, the historic Ourie rock pool is a great experience. Swim a few laps in this former “Ladies Pool” built in the 1930s, before you return to the village for a modern Australian dining experience in one of the many restaurants or just sit quietly and enjoy the views in one of the many cafes.
There is plenty of browsing and shopping to be enjoyed in the village centre and there are regular local weekend markets with an exciting range of produce, handicrafts, art-work and brick-a-brack.
Travel on a day trip from you Gerringong holiday home, and visit the local wineries or the brewery, or take the kids to the rainforest experience at the Minnamurra Rainforest Centre, or the Jamberoo Action Park or go to Granties Maze and Fun Park.
